H2H N°9: Heart 2 Heart with Stephanie Dale x Island Studios

From Upstate New York to the South Coast of Bali – We introduce to you the vibrant and confident Stephanie Dale. In this inspiring read, Stephanie Dale discusses her lifestyle changes, the creative power of freedom and artistry, and that ‘sustainability’ is ought to be reimagined.
Q N°1: Tell us what you do and what projects you’re currently up to!
I am both an independent creative and the leader of a growing local creative production studio here in Bali. Most recently, I’ve been working on building out Lungomare’s visual brand identity and implementing strategies that can help us reach our goals for 2023.
Q N°2: Where is home for you?
Currently, home is Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia. I’m originally from upstate New York
Q N°3: Describe your creative life in 4 words?
Powerful, vibrant, exploratory, expansive!
Q N°4: What advice would you give your younger creative self?
Pay close attention to what inspires you the most, and do more and as much of those things as possible. Also, don’t be afraid to approach people you admire and get some first-hand insights on their way of thinking and measures of success.
Q N°5: Was there a moment or learning curve that dramatically shaped your path as a professional?
There are several steep learning curves and significant moments that come to mind for sure. I think the most significant is realising that I absolutely do not want to work in an office on a strict 9–5 schedule. Cliche, perhaps, but so important to my lifestyle change.
Q N°6: What’s one thing within your creative industry that could be improved? / What does the future of your creative industry look like — ideally?
The outlook on the creative pitching process. Let’s be open to the notion that you should be paying creatives for their pitches!
From my point of view, the future holds more space for artists and entrepreneurs to be the driving forces in.
Q N°7: As it’s growing to be an important demand and integral to future business models, what will attributes such as sustainability or freedom look like to you in your creative work?
Freedom holds a dear place in my heart, so I think this will continue to show up in places like flexible work schedules and project-based assignments. Sustainability is a word that deserves some reimagination in my opinion; I’d like to see how we as creatives can start to redefine this within our industry while, of course, keeping the basic principles of high-standard ethics present in the work we do.
